The WCI is a collaboration of independent jurisdictions who commit to work together to identify, evaluate, and implement policies to tackle climate change at a regional level. Other US states, Canadian provinces, Mexican states and tribes that are interested in collaborating to combat climate change at a regional level are encouraged to participate in the WCI as either members or observers. Partners, Committees, Teams and Task GroupsEach member state and province designates lead representatives to serve on the WCI. These WCI Partners direct the overall work of the WCI, and make recommendations for program design and policies to achieve the collective greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. For more information about the WCI process for making recommendations, click here. The WCI Partners also form working Committees as necessary to accomplish the work of the WCI. Each WCI Partner jurisdiction may designate representatives to serve as members on each Committee. Observer jurisdictions are also welcome to participate. Committees may form task groups as needed to accomplish specific work of the Committee, and are responsible for determining the members, scope, and outcomes of these task groups. For more information about the 2010 WCI Committees, click here. LiaisonsThe WCI Partner jurisdictions recognize the importance of collaborating with the other regional initiatives currently underway (i.e., the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative in the Northeast U.S. and the Midwest Greenhouse Gas Accord in Midwest North America) and with the U.S. and Canadian federal governments.
To facilitate collaboration and communication, the WCI Partner jurisdictions have designated one U.S. and one Canadian representative to serve in the position of WCI Liaison. The WCI Liaisons are the primary but not sole WCI contacts for interaction with federal governments and other state, provincial, and regional efforts.
SupportThe Western Governors Association is under contract to the WCI to provide overall project management. Several not-for-profit organizations and consulting firms are under contract to provide technical and analytical guidance and support to the WCI Partners and Committees. |
